The list of trophies and descriptions on how to obtain each of them. Return back to the “Achievements and Trophy List” for an easier to read listing. Note that the full list of trophies with descriptions will contain some game spoilers. Turn back now if you would prefer not to see them!
This trophy is obtained automatically once you obtain all of the other trophies listed on this page. Read the descriptions below for more information on how to obtain each of them.
All you have to do to obtain this trophy is obtain the Quezacotl Guardian Force which is given to you by Quistis at the beginning of the game in Balamb Garden. You will either receive them when you open up the Study Panel in the classroom or, if you skip past the study panel, Quistis will give you both the Quezacotl and Shiva Guardian Forces just before you leave Balamb Garden through the front gate.
Similar to the description for Quezacotl above, all you have to do to obtain this trophy is obtain the Shiva Guardian Force which is given to you by Quistis at the beginning of the game in Balamb Garden. You will either receive them when you open up the Study Panel in the classroom or, if you skip past the study panel, Quistis will give you both the Quezacotl and Shiva Guardian Forces just before you leave Balamb Garden through the front gate.
This trophy is earned when you obtain Ifrit as a Guardian Force. You automatically obtain Ifrit as your third Guardian Force when you defeat it inside the Fire Cavern at the beginning of the game.
This trophy is earned when you obtain Siren as a Guardian Force. Your first opportunity to obtain Siren is during the Dollet SeeD Exam. More specifically, after the fight against Biggs and Wedge concludes, a boss battle event against Elvoret will take place at the top of the Dollet Communication Tower. Use the Draw command to Draw Siren from Elvoret during the course of the battle.
If you missed Drawing Siren from Elvoret during this battle, you have a second chance to draw her during the battle against Tri-Point in Ultimecia’s Castle. Just make sure that you have released the seal on the Draw command in the first battle against Sphinxaur at the top of the stairs otherwise you won’t be able to draw for this fight.
This trophy can be earned by upgrading any of your weapons at any of the junk shops throughout the game. Check out the “upgrading weapons” page in the tips and tricks section for more information on how weapon upgrades work in FFVIII.
All you have to do to earn this trophy is challenge someone, anyone, to a game of Triple Triad using the Button. You can do this quite early in the game once you pick up the free cards offered by the student on the second floor of Balamb Garden.
Alternatively though, if you didn’t pick up these free cards, there is a chance at the end of any random battle encounter that you will receive a Triple Triad card of the enemy you defeat, which is a method you can use to store up enough cards to challenge someone to a game. Lastly, you can use Quezacotl’s Card command to turn random enemies into Triple Triad cards. Just make sure that the enemy has low HP to increase the odds of success.
This trophy is extremely easy to earn and you will earn it automatically as you play through the game. After you have completed the Dollet SeeD Exam, and Squall and his colleagues become SeeD members, they will start automatically receiving a salary from time to time. I.E. its just a matter of time and wondering around the map before you’ll receive your first salary (which pops up as a little notification at the bottom of the screen). Check out the SeeD Exam section for more information on how the SeeD ranks and salaries work.
This trophy is earned after you obtain the Brothers Guardian Force. This is the first Guardian Force that requires a few less intuitive steps to earn, and its easy to miss picking up Brothers if you don’t know what you’re looking for.
The primary objective of the trip to the Tomb of the Unknown King is to pick up the Student ID number from the weapon lying near the front of the Tomb. If you continue venturing through the Tomb though you can also obtain Brothers. Check out the Tomb of the Unknown King section of the walkthrough for the full list of steps that need to be completed as well as some tips for defeating Brothers.
This Guardian Force can not be obtained from the bosses in Ultimecia’s Castle.
This trophy is earned as soon as any of your characters have 9,999 HP. The easiest way to achieve this is to level your characters up and to make use of some of the Command Abilities associated with some Guardian Forces:
You can’t double up on any of these abilities (i.e. junctioning both Brothers and Carbuncle won’t give you access to two HP+20%) but with some of the higher level abilities like HP+80% and if your characters are leveled high enough, getting to 9,999 HP is fairly straightforward.
Check out the Island Closest to Heaven / Hell pages if you would like more information on leveling up your characters against high level enemies.
This trophy is earned as soon as you defeat 100 enemies in battle. You can spend some time defeating low level enemies to rack up kills and earn this trophy quicker. Some of the lowest level enemies are available in and around the Balamb Town / Balamb Garden area.
This trophy is earned once you obtain your first Chocobo through the Chocobo Forest side quest. Check out the Chocobo Forest side quest page for more information on how to successfully use the ChocoSonar and ChocoZiner to flesh out a Chocobo.
This trophy is earned once you use the Draw command in battle a total of 100 times. This trophy should be earned naturally as you progress through the game as you should be making a concerted effort to draw lots of magic to strengthen up your characters.
This trophy is earned after you obtain Alexander as a Guardian Force. Alexander is another Guardian Force that needs to be drawn from an enemy using the Draw command. More specifically, this Guardian Force can be drawn from Edea during the battle in Galbadia Garden at the end of Disc 2.
Alternatively, this is one of the Guardian Forces that can be drawn in Ultimecia’s Castle. Alexander can be drawn from Catoblepas in the Treasure Room. Check out the walkthrough section on Ultimecia’s Castle for more information.
This trophy is earned after you obtain Leviathan as a Guardian Force. Use the Draw command on Master NORG when Squall and his team venture down into the basement of Balamb Garden after saving it from the Galbadia missile strike.
This Guardian Force can also be drawn in Ultimecia’s Castle if you missed Drawing it from Master NORG. Use the Draw command on Trauma in the Art Gallery to obtain Leviathan there if you missed it.
This trophy is earned after you obtain Pandemona as a Guardian Force. Use the Draw command on Fujin during the battle against Fujin and Raijin in the Balamb Hotel. Fujin gets much weaker in the battle as soon as you do.
This Guardian Force can also be drawn in Ultimecia’s Castle if you forgot to draw it during this fight. Use the Draw command on the Red Giant boss in the Castle’s Prison Cell.
This trophy is earned after you obtain Cerberus as a Guardian Force which happens after you defeat it in battle. Its fairly difficult to miss Cerberus as its a gigantic canine that appears in the center of Galbadia Garden towards the end of disc 2. Cerberus will only appear after you have obtained Card Key 02 during the battle between Balamb Garden and Galbadia Garden.
That being said, it is possible to get through Galbadia Garden without picking up Cerberus if you don’t challenge it to a fight before leaving the area on your way to confront Sorceress Edea. You can still pick up Cerberus by using the Draw command on Gargantua in Ultimecia’s Castle.
This trophy is earned after you obtain Carbuncle as a Guardian Force. Carbuncle can be drawn using the Draw command from the Iguions that approach Rinoa inside the Presidential Residence in Deling City.
Alternatively, if you missed Drawing the GF during this fight, you can obtain it by Drawing it from Krysta in Ultimecia’s Castle.
This trophy is earned after you create Doomtrain as a Guardian Force. Doomtrain, unlike other Guardian Forces, is not drawn from an enemy or defeated in battle. Instead, you need to collect a number of rare items, including the Solomon Ring from Tear’s Point, and then “create” Doomtrain by activating the items in your inventory. Check out the Doomtrain GF side quest section for more information.
This trophy is fairly easy to obtain. You can either purposefully lose a rare card to any random Triple Triad player or, during the course of your play through, you will have to lose some rare cards to the Queen of Cards in order to get her to move, which will automatically reward you with this trophy. This includes any level 8 card or higher (GF/Player cards).
This trophy can be picked up be completing the CC-Group side quest. This includes defeating the following players:
Check out the Card Club (CC-Group) side quest section for more information.
You will obtain this trophy once you have collected both of the two rewards for completing the Obel Lake side quest. This includes the Three Stars and Luck-J Scroll. Check out the Obel Lake side quest section for more information.
Obtaining this trophy is not overly complicated but can be overly time consuming. You can check the Battle Meter, if you have it, to see how many enemies that you have defeated total and to confirm how close you are to obtaining this trophy. There are two strategies you can use to speed up its acquisition:
Other than that, there are no specific tricks to obtaining this trophy under than putting in the time that it requires.
This trophy is obtained be defeating Omega Weapon, the most powerful superboss in the game. Omega Weapon is found inside Ultimecia’s Castle and can be summoned once you have defeated all of the other bosses in the dungeon and released all the seals on the way to battling Ultimecia. Check out the Omega Weapon side quest section for more information.
This trophy is also quite easy to obtain but it can be time consuming especially if you have been skipping past the available Draw Points (i.e. not Drawing from them if they contain low level magic or if your characters were already full on that particular magic spell). The best way to obtain this trophy later on in the game is to visit either of the two Islands Closest to Hell/Heaven and use the hidden draw points there. Check out the Island Closest to Hell/Heaven side quest section for more information.
This is one of the more difficult trophies to obtain because its easy to accidentally forget to pick up one of the Timber Maniacs Magazine issues, but this trophy involves collecting them all. That means you may be out of luck if you are at the end of the game and missed them. All of the towns are locked out due to time compression in Disc 4 and its impossible to retrieve them at that point.
The full list of issues can be found in the Timber Maniacs side quest section. Here are the locations as they come up in the walkthrough pages:
This trophy is earned after you obtain Cactuar as a Guardian Force which you can do by defeating Jumbo Cactuar on Cactuar Island. This can only be done after you have access to the Ragnarok ship but it can be completed at any point in the game including at the end of the game when access to most of the towns has been locked out. Check out the Jumbo Cactuar GF side quest section for more information.
This trophy is earned after you obtain Tonberry as a Guardian Force which you can do by defeating the Tonberry King GF in Centra Ruins. This can only be done as soon as you have access to the mobile Balamb Garden ship or the Ragnarok. Check out the Tonberry GF side quest page for more information.
You can obtain the Eden trophy by obtaining Eden as a Guardian Force. Eden is drawn from Ultima Weapon who can be found at the bottom of the Deep Sea Research Center. Check out the Deep Sea Research Center side quest page for more information, but note the warnings on that page that you may not want to defeat Ultima Weapon and you may wish to use the alternative method for obtaining Eden.
The alternative method is to draw Eden from Tiamat inside Ultimecia’s Castle. Whereas for more of the other Guardian Forces you would typically only draw them from the bosses in Ultimecia’s Castle if you missed them, using this method as the preferred option for obtaining Eden allows you to retain access to the fixed encounters with Tri-Face enemies that is available in the Deep Sea Research Center. Consider both options carefully before you proceed.
You’ll receive this trophy as soon as you defeat Diablos by summoning him. You can summon Diablos using the Magical Lamp item that Headmaster Cid gives to Squall ahead of the Timber Forest Owls mission. Check out the Diablos Guardian Force Boss Battle strategy section of the Balamb Garden walkthrough page for more information.
Earning this trophy involves defeating and obtaining Bahamut as a Guardian Force. Bahamut guards the Core of the Deep Sea Research Center. Defeating him to gain entry is one of the first things that you do when you reach the area. Check out the Deep Sea Research Center side quest page for more information.
You will obtain this trophy automatically once you have completed the events aboard the derelict Ragnarok ship floating around in space and obtained the ship for yourself. Check out the Ragnarok walkthrough page for more information.
This trophy can be obtained by achieving the highest rank of SeeD level available in the game. The SeeD ranks go as low as level 1 all the way up to level 30, with the top rank being “Rank A” which is equivalent to rank 31. The easiest way to level up your SeeD rank is through the written tests that are available in the menu screen.
Alternatively, you can gain ranks as you progress through the game. The primary means of bumping your rank up include:
You will lose 10 SeeD experience points every time your salary is paid and will gain a point for every enemy defeated. Check out the SeeD Rank tips and trick section for more information.
This trophy is obtained once you complete the UFO & PuPu side quest and obtain the PuPu Card.
