The following list includes cards from pages 8, 9 and 10, which are the Guardian Force cards and the Player cards. These 3 pages of cards collectively make up the high-level rare cards and each of these rare cards cannot be found through regular games against card players.
If you missed any of these cards you can still manage to pick them up if you complete the CC-Group side quest prior to moving on to disc 4. Check out the Recovering Lost or Refined Cards section for more information.
You may have noticed that one card on page 5 seems to be missing. While it may not be a high level card, the PuPu card involves an entire side quest to obtain…
In order to obtain the PuPu Card you will need to complete the UFO side quest. Information about this side quest is available by clicking the link or checking out the side quest section.
The Angelo Card is held by Watts. You can first challenge Watts to a game of Triple Triad during the Forest Owls mission in Timber while you are on the train (click on the link to go to that section of the walkthrough).
If you missed your opportunity while on the train you can still challenge Watts to a game of cards when you find him on the White SeeD Ship on disc 3 (click on the link to go to that section of the walkthrough).
The Gilgamesh Card is obtained from the former Master King of the CC-Group (Dr. Kadowaki). Dr. Kadowaki will not play using this card until you have completed the CC-Group side quest up to the point of finding out that he was the former Master King. The MiniMog Card is the first rare card that you can easily get your hands on. The card can be won by challenging the jogger who runs circles through Balamb Garden. The jogger wears a green/blue mix of clothing and runs through each area of Balamb continuously. If you miss the jogger as he/she runs past just leave the screen and return and they will run past again. Check out the Balamb Garden walkthrough page for more information.
You receive the Chicobo Card at the conclusion of the Chocobo Forest side quest. Click here on the link for more information on how to complete this side quest.
You can win this card by challenging Mayor Dobe in Fisherman’s Horizon (FH) to a game of cards at any point after your initial meeting with him and his wife. Check out the Fishermans Horizon (FH) walkthrough page for more information.
You can obtain the Shiva Card from Zone while you are onboard the White SeeD Ship. In order to receive the card from Zone you must give him the Girl Next Door magazine which can be found in the Timber Maniacs building in Timber.
If you missed grabbing the Girl Next Door magazine or if you forgot to speak to Zone while on the White SeeD Ship you will have to wait until the end of the game to receive the Shiva Card. Check out the Recovering Lost or Refined Cards section for more information.
One of the easiest cards to obtain - you automatically receive the Ifrit Card once you defeat Ifrit at the conclusion of the Fire Cavern mission early in the game.
Challenge the owner of the pub in Dollet (where you meet up with the Queen of Cards) to a game. After you defeat him he will invite you into his secret room and from there you can challenge him again to win the Siren Card. Check out the Timber Forest Owls walkthrough page for more information.
You receive both the Sacred and the Minotaur Cards after you defeat Sacred and Minotaur in the Tomb of the Unknown King. Click on the link to go to that part of the strategy guide.

The Carbuncle Card is obtained while you are completing the CC-Group side quest. Queen Heart (otherwise known as Xu) has this card in her possession.
You receive the Diablos Card after you defeat Diablos. The battle against Diablos is initiated by examining the Magical Lamp that Headmaster Cid gives you just before you leave Balamb Garden. Click on the link to go to that section of the strategy guide.
This card can be obtained while you are completing the CC-Group side quest. Card Group member Joker (in the Training Center) has this card.
You receive the Odin card once you have defeated Odin in the Centra Ruins. Click on the link for more information about the Odin side quest.
An alternative method to obtain this card is to wait until the end of disc 4. Check out the Recovering Lost or Refined Cards page for more information.
The Hotel Owner standing outside of the hotel in the town of Balamb holds this card. You can only challenge him for it though once you have defeated Fujin and Raijin inside the hotel during this part of the game. Just make your way back inside the town afterwards.
You automatically receive the Cerberus Card once you defeat Cerberus in the main hall of Galbadia Garden (click on the link to go to that section of the walkthrough).
You can obtain the Alexander Card by challenging Piet to a game of cards. Piet can be found aboard the Lunar Base. Unfortunately, if you have already passed this portion of the game you will have to obtain Alexander from the CC-Group card members at the end of Disc 4. The Phoenix Card is the last card you receive upon completion of the Queen of Cards side quest. The card itself is held by the Presidential Aide in Esthar. You can find the Aide in the Presidential Palace in the same room that Squall first dropped off Rinoa in.
You receive the Bahamut Card when you defeat Bahamut at the Deep Sea Research Center.
The Doomtrain Card is obtained while completing the Queen of Cards side quest (click on the link for more information). The owner of the pub in Timber holds the card. He is the one standing under the sign that morphs between a picture of a lady and a picture of a tiger. It can take a lot of card games before you see him use the Doomtrain Card so be prepared.
You receive the Eden Card once you have defeated Ultima Weapon at the bottom of the Deep Sea Research Center. Alternatively, you can obtain this card by defeating CC-Group members aboard the Ragnarok on Disc 4 if you prefer not to defeat Ultima Weapon. You can win this card by challenging Dr. Odine in Esthar as soon as he stops talking…
The Kiros Card is the first card that you can obtain by completing a portion of the Queen of Cards side quest and is actually available as soon as you visit Deling City for the first time if you complete the quest parts as they become available.
You can win the Laguna Card by challenging Ellone to a game of cards while you are on the Lunar Base.
Unforunately, if you missed the Laguna Card, you will have to wait until the end of Disc 4 and challenge the CC-Group members for the card. Click on the link for more information about the CC-Group side quest or check out the Recovering Lost or Refined Cards section.
The Selphie Card is held by one of Selphie’s classmates at the ruins of Trabia Garden. Challenge the person sitting on the fountain. The only way to pick up this card if you missed it is to challenge the CC-Group members once you reach Disc 4. Check out the Recovering Lost or Refined Cards section for more information.
The Quistis Card is the second easiest rare card to obtain and it can be picked up very early on in the game. The two SeeD members at the back of the cafeteria in Balamb Garden are members of the “Quistis Fan Club” and the one in the back holds the card. The Irvine Card is obtained by completing the Queen of Cards side quest. Mayor Dobe’s wife in Fisherman’s Horizon (FH) holds the card.
You can win the Zell Card by challenging Zell’s mom in the town of Balamb to a game of cards. This can only be done after you have completed the Dollet SeeD exam mission.
Head back to Deling City and back to General Caraway’s Mansion. If you talk to General Caraway he will explain to you that essentially he wants the Ifrit Card. Lose the Ifrit Card to him on purpose and he will begin using the Rinoa Card so you can win it off of him.
In order to get your Ifrit Card back though you will have to travel to Fisherman’s Horizon (FH) and challenge Martine to a game of cards. Martine is the man sitting off to the side of the Mayor’s residence.
Edea holds her own card. Travel to Edea’s House after the battle against Galbadia Garden and challenge her to a game of cards. Because of the ridiculous card rules in effect for the region of Centra it can be incredibly difficult to win Edea’s card from her. There are some tips and tricks to make it easier to obtain her card that are listed out on the walkthrough page.
Headmaster Cid holds the Seifer Card and you can challenge him right after he gives you the Magical Lamp and before you make your way to Timber. Check out the Balamb Garde walkthrough page for more information.
After you have spoken with Laguna in Esthar and after he and his team board the Ragnarok, you can challenge Laguna to a game of cards to obtain the Squall Card.
