Monk Job IconMonk

Monks deal damage using poles, and they have access to a few White Magick spells. They can use Poles to hit flying-type enemies. Monks also do fairly heavy damage and get access to a full complement of HP-increasing Licenses. The Monk gets access to all three Swiftness Licenses and to the Technick IconWither, and Technick IconExpose Technicks. All of this makes it a great job to pair with a Black Mage, a Bushi, or a Time Battlemage, as the increases in MP and Magick Power will allow the Monk to cast more healing spells.

Esper and Quickening Unlocks

Each Esper and Quickening you unlock is tied to a specific spot on the License Board, and claiming one opens up the licenses around it. The table below shows which extra licenses each Esper makes available on this board, along with the Quickening unlock, so you can decide which character should claim each one.

Job Pairing Recommendations

The Monk works best when paired with a second job that covers its gaps. A few combinations worth considering:

Combination Why It Works
Monk / Black Mage Adds physical muscle to a glass-cannon caster: the Monk’s HP, Poles, and Swiftness let the character attack without spending MP.
Monk / White Mage A self-sufficient tank, combining the Monk’s HP and damage with full healing and support magick.
Monk / Time Battlemage Layers Haste and other Time Magick onto the Monk’s fast Pole offense, with extra survivability.
