Bushi Job IconBushi

The Bushi, a.k.a. the Samurai, uses a Katana as their primary source of damage. A Katana’s attack power is based on both the strength stat and the Magick power stat. They do not get access to many spells or Technicks, so they are best when paired with other jobs such as a Shikari, a Knight, or a Monk.

Esper and Quickening Unlocks

Each Esper and Quickening you unlock is tied to a specific spot on the License Board, and claiming one opens up the licenses around it. The table below shows which extra licenses each Esper makes available on this board, along with the Quickening unlock, so you can decide which character should claim each one.

Weapons and Armor Overview

The Bushi (Samurai) is a hybrid attacker that wields Katanas, whose damage scales off both Strength and Magick Power, and wears Mystic Armor to push that Magick stat higher. Three Swiftness Licenses make it one of the fastest melee jobs.

Job Pairing Recommendations

The Bushi works best when paired with a second job that covers its gaps. A few combinations worth considering:

Combination Why It Works
Bushi / Knight A top-tier combination. The Knight’s Strength and Heavy Armor complement the Bushi’s Magick-scaling Katanas, and the pair also gains greatswords, shields, and White Magick healing.
Bushi / Shikari Trades some power for utility, granting the Bushi ninja swords (and the Yagyu Darkblade) plus the Shikari’s evasion, which shines against Yiazmat.
Bushi / Foebreaker Adds the four Breaks and Heavy Armor to the Bushi’s fast Katana offense for a sturdier, debuff-heavy attacker.
