Final Fantasy X-2 is absolutely full of missable content. The biggest and most critical of these being without a doubt the Story Completion Percent and attempting to get the Perfect Ending. But even beyond that, the game has five chapters that require you to five chapters revisit the same locations over and over again. There are items you can only pick up during each chapter’s visit, and there’s no way to backtrack once you move forward to the next chapter.
Reading through that list, though, there is a very clear tier list that forms of missable items:
Tier
What It Means
Examples
Red
Missable and Important
Missable scenes that cause you to permanently lose Story Completion Percent
Items you can’t pick up if you leave that are important to the story or side quests
Decisions that prevent you from getting 100%
Forks that can prevent you from achieving an “Episode Complete” and missing the Mascot Dressphere
Yellow
Missable and Semi-Important
Decisions with a safety net later on, like Cid’s question and Kimahri’s question
Side quests that come around again in a later chapter, like “Operation: Monkey!” and the Squatter Monkeys
Garment Grids, which are technically unique, but you certainly don’t need and won’t use them all
Green
Missable but Unimportant
Treasure chests holding ordinary items, which this guide only covers in passing
The headers for each of the sections below use the tier system outlined in the table above.
Important Decision Points
At the beginning of Chapter 2, you’ll have the option of deciding whether to give the “Awesome Sphere” to the Youth League or New Yevon. Giving the sphere to “New Yevon” limits you to only being able to get 99.2% Story Completion Percent, so make sure you select “Youth League” if you’re planning to see the Perfect Ending or obtain Sweet Perfection.
The culprit that Rin selects for the Mi’ihen Highroad Mystery can impact your ability to get an “Episode Complete” for that area. Make sure that Rin doesn’t select himself as the culprit, otherwise you won’t be able to get obtain the Mascot Dressphere.
Don’t catch the Chocobo too early during the Cuckoo for Chocobos Mission along the Mi’ihen Highroad in Chapter 2, otherwise, once again, you won’t be able to get 100% Story Completion.
Missable Scenes
Missing these scenes will prevent you from viewing the Perfect Ending or obtaining the Sweet Perfection achievement/trophy. Note that the walkthrough flags all of these scenes and requirements so that you don’t accidentally miss them.
Interact wih the Moogle during the opening sequence along the docks in Luca.
Speak to Tobli at the Moonflow in Chapter 1 before you speak to his Hypello assistant along the Moonflow Road.
Don’t skip out on any of the CommSphere Wave scenes in Chapter 4.
Head down to the engine room of the Celsius to meet up with Leblanc prior to the Thunder Plains Concert in Chapter 4 before you speak to Shinra on the bridge.
Interact with Maechen at the Zanarkand Ruins in Chapter 5 before you leave the area.
Missable Dresspheres
Most of the Dresspheres are tied to a Mission or an event in one specific chapter. Several of them are retrievable later on, if you missed them, but the ones listed below can be missed:
Alchemist is a reward for completing the “Clean Sweep” Mission in the Calm Lands. You only lose it for good if you never talk to Clasko at all in Chapters 1 and 2, which leaves the Chocobo Ranch closed and Clasko will be gone for the rest of the game.
Berserker is a reward for winning six battles in a row while defending the travel agency at Lake Macalania in Chapter 3. There is no time to heal, but you can pick “Flee.” between bouts to pull back and try the Mission again. Leave Chapter 3 without finishing all six and there is no way to get it later.
Trainer is given by Kimahri on Mt. Gagazet in Chapter 3, but only if you answered his statements correctly in earlier chapters.
Mascot is provided by Buddy on the Celsius if you achieve an “Episode Complete” in every location.
Three others look missable but are not. You can pick up Dark Knight from the “Bevelle Underground” chest in Chapter 2 or on the Chapter 3 return, and Samurai can be found in the Kilika Cloister of Trials in Chapter 3 or a treasure chest in Chapter 5. The Lady Luck Dressphere can also still be found it you lose the Sphere Break tournament at Luca in Chapter 3. Find Shinra in the Luca basement in Chapter 5 and ask him for a rematch, but you’ll have to win within 15 turns against a quota of 100.
Missable Items
Four of the ten Crimson Spheres can be missed, and missing any one of them will prevent you from gaining access to the Den of Woe at Mushroom Rock Road in Chapter 5:
Crimson Sphere 9, left behind by Ormi at the Ravine on Mushroom Rock Road in Chapter 1. It is gone if you never visit the Den’s entrance that chapter.
The Invincible accessory which requires you to speak to the camera operator in Kilika in Chapters 1, 3 and 5. He’ll offer to let you look through the camera to see the new headquaters and you need to accept each time.
Episode Complete and Episode Concluded
In Chapter 5, as you’re completing the final events at each location, you should see an “Episode Complete” and never an “Episode Concluded.” If you see Concluded instead of Complete, it means you missed some sort of story element in the previous chapter and you’ve left something unfinished. You’ll need to complete all of the episodes to earn the Mascot Dressphere.
Extra Endings
Press the button as Yuna is passing through the Farplane after the final boss has been defeated. Doing so will trigger any extra scenes that you have access to. For more information, check out the “All Endings” explanation video:
All Endings Video Guide
A full explanation of the different endings in Final Fantasy X-2, with every version of each ending shown.
The Squatter Monkeys, which can still be caught when you return to Kilika in Chapter 3.
Learnable Abilities
Many of the Blue Bullet abilities can only be learned in very specific circumstances. Obtaining these abilities is not required, but for completionists, you should familiarize yourself with the full list of abilities to make sure you don’t leave any behind. This guide flags many of the important ones in the walkthrough section.
Garment Grids
Thunder Spawn can be obtained in Chapters 1 and 2 only.
Ordinary chests are missable and they change/refill for each chapter, but none of the items they contain are critical unless specifically identified on this page or within the walkthrough section.
