Bikanel Desert and the Calm Lands
Speak to Nhadala, and she’ll ask you to check out the Oasis for her before you do any digging, but as a reminder…
Helpful Hint
Hold off on digging for now. Every assembly you dig up levels up a boss you must fight in Chapter 5, and one of its Story Completion lines requires defeating it before it reaches maximum level. The guide will tell you when it’s safe to dig freely.
Mission: Water We Doing Here?
This is another incredibly easy Mission. You’ll automatically travel by hover to the Oasis, where a cutscene plays out, and you’ll receive Rikku’s Special Dressphere,
Machina Maw.
Time for another fight against Logos, who is accompanied by two Fem-Goons. Once again, this can’t really be called a boss fight, as it’s incredibly easy to take all three enemies down. You’ll have liberated your second of the three
Syndicate Uniforms at the end of the fight, and you’ll also receive the
Hour of Need Garment Grid. 2 down, 1 more to go!
That’s all there is to do in Bikanel for this chapter. Now it’s on to the Calm Lands.
Calm Lands
A short cutscene will trigger when you enter the Calm Lands in Chapter 2. Clasko will exclaim that he’s sure that this is where he’ll “find his calling.”
Warning
If you’re not seeing Clasko, you may have missed one of the earlier steps, which included:
- Talking to Clasko at the end of the Mushroom Rock Road events and inviting him on the airship
- Talking to Clasko after defeating the Chocobo Eater at the Mi’ihen Highroad
If you missed talking to Clasko at the Mi’ihen Highroad, he’s probably still there, and you can talk to him and trigger this scene in the Calm Lands. Still, if you missed talking to him at the Mushroom Rock Road and inviting him on the airship, you’re out of luck and will have to reload a Chapter 1 save (or start over) to get 100% Story Completion.
Clasko will run towards the east side of the Calm Lands, which is where the Monster Arena used to be. A message will pop up asking whether you’d like to follow Clasko; to save yourself the long walk, select “Yes,” but you can also explore the Calm Lands and pick up some treasure chests using the map below.
Calm Lands
Before Clasko can begin raising Chocobos for you, he’ll need help clearing out the area of fiends. Offer to help him out when you get the option.
Mission: Clean Sweep
This Mission is also a bit of a puzzle, but it’s really easy once you understand what to look for. As you travel through the corridors, you’ll see stationary fiends in each of the crevices, but most of them will disappear if you touch them.
All you have to do to find the right one to touch is to look at which direction all of the fiends are facing. They all face towards the fiend you should touch. The first fiend to activate is always in the northeast corner; a Skink in the second-to-last crevice. After that, you’ll have to see which way the fiends all point.
As a quick note, you’ll see a pathway leading north that fades into black; that actually leads up to the second level of the ruins, and there are 5 more crevices with fiends up there. Be sure to check those spots as well, and if you’re having trouble telling which fiend they’re pointing at, checking this upper level can help narrow it down.
After you’ve defeated five fiends, the final battle will be against three Blue Element enemies. If you’re having trouble, the game will place a red arrow () over the correct fiend.
You get some really great rewards for completing this Mission. First and foremost, Clasko will now take care of any Chocobos you catch by housing them here in his “Chocobo Ranch,” but before getting to that, you’ve also just picked up the
Highroad Winds Garment Grid and a new Dressphere!
Dresspheres
A popular Dressphere that many players use during their playthrough due to its extensive utility; it can deal damage and heal your party members.
The Alchemist is the second Dressphere you get that operates as your party’s primary healer. It has an amazing amount of utility, especially when one of the characters learns the
Mega-Potion ability.
Helpful Hint
The Alchemist becomes one of the strongest healers in the game once it learns its
Mega-Potion ability, which allows it to cast a free heal for up to 2,000 HP on every party member. Unfortunately, an Alchemist will have to learn
Potion, then
Hi-Potion and then
Mega-Potion, so it’ll be a while before you have access to their strongest asset.
In the meantime, though, there’s an alternative route you can use to optimize healing while you’re waiting for them to learn that ability. You can use the
Mix command to mix a
Potion with a
Hi-Potion; this combination creates a
Mega-Potion. Going this route means you’re going to be burning through your inventory of consumables, but by this point, you’ve likely stored up a whole stash of
Potions and
Hi-Potions that you can make use of.
Without a doubt, the Alchemist Dressphere ranks as one of the most powerful that you’ll gain access to. There are some spoilers on the page below, but if you’re interested in learning more about which Dresspheres are the strongest, click the link below:

Before you leave the Chocobo Ranch, go back in and talk to Clasko one more time. He’ll load you up with
Gysahl Greens, which you can use to capture a Chocobo when it is alone in battle. He’ll also give you
Pahsana Greens, which can be used to keep a Chocobo busy, but not to capture it. This guide covers the steps for catching a Chocobo later.
Trek back to the center of the Calm Lands to find two young Ronso milling about.
The first meeting with Lian and Ayde triggers some Story Completion Percent, but it’s also required for some later interactions.
And that’s everything you can do in the Calm Lands for this chapter. Use the
Save Sphere to warp back up to the Celsius, and then you’re off to Mt. Gagazet.
Checking the “Bikanel Desert and the Calm Lands Complete” box adds the Story Completion Percent for the automatic scenes in Bikanel Desert and the Calm Lands.
