This Hunt can be completed any time after you have completed the Draklor Laboratory after going through the Imperial City of Archades. The Bill first becomes available in the Whitecap tavern in the Port of Balfonheim.
The petitioner for this Hunt is Barrong. You can find him hiding in a corner in Nalbina Fortress. Make your way to the West Ward of the Fortress and look for him hiding off to the left of the staircase leading up to the Aerodrome. You can speak to him from afar and he will come closer to you once you do.
Before venturing off to find Goliath, make sure that you purchased an Opal Ring from the Leapin’ Bangaa in the Port of Balfonheim.
You can find Goliath in the Necrohol of Nabudis. The easiest way to get to Goliath’s location is to enter the Necrohol of Nabudis from the northern entrance by way of the Nabreus Deadlands.
This section of the guide is going to assume that you have not been to the Nabreus Deadlands before. If you have, warp to the Nabreus Deadlands and scroll down to the “Succor Midst Sorrow” section below.
Warp to the Salikawood which will land you in the Quietened Trace. You will have to travel through the Grand Bower next, which may contain an optional boss named King Bomb, if you have not done so already. More details on how to defeat King Bomb are available on the Salikawood walkthrough page – click on the link for more details.
Travel north into the Piebald Path and north again into Nabreus Deadlands. You start off in the Greencrag zone. Go north into the Muted Scarp to find a Save Crystal. You should also talk to Ma’kleou (listed as Quiet Nu Mou when you first approach it). Make sure you select all of the available options. Head east into the Vale of Lingering Sorrow.
Go to the northwest section of this zone to find the map of the Nabreus Deadlands. Continue north into Hope’s Reach, east into the Slumbermead and north again into the Succor Midst Sorrow. The Save Crystal is actually a Crystalbug; defeat it and use the Save Crystal to save your game.
Succor Midst Sorrow
From the Succor Midst Sorrow, head straight north into the Lifeless Strand and follow the pathway around to the Field of the Fallen Lord. Continue east until you reach the Necrohol of Nabudis. Goliath is right around the corner to the left.
You may want to clear out some of the surrounding Baknamy enemies as they can cause havoc if they spot you and attack you during the middle of the fight. Also note that you can avoid the traps by casting Float Magick.
Level: 47
HP: 224,294
Steal: Holy Magicite (55%), Iron Ore (10%), Holy Crystal (3%)
Goliath will cast an anti-Magick shield on itself at the beginning of the fight, negating any Magick attacks made against it, and will then proceed to pummel your party with Magick attacks, including Graviga, Gravity, Aeroga, etc. The easiest tactic to use to defeat Goliath is to cast Reflect on all of your characters (or equip them with armor/accessories that automatically cast Reflect) to heavily reduce the amount of damage that Goliath can do.
Equip your primary healer with the Opal Ring that you purchased at the Port of Balfonheim which will allow that person to cast healing spells that ignore Reflect. Equip Ruby Rings and Mirror Mail to your party members if you have them and then set up a Gambit to cast Reflect on any of your party members that don’t have equipment to enable the effect automatically.
The rest of the fight becomes a fairly straightforward battle against an enemy with a ton of HP.
A video of the battle in the Zodiac Age version is included below:
Note: Don’t leave the Necrohol of Nabudis if you are completing this Hunt at the same time as Hunt 25: Dead City Watch (Deathscythe – Rank VI).
Return to Barrong back at the Nalbina Fortress once you have defeated Goliath. The rewards for successfully completing this Hunt include 3,600 gil, a Save the Queen weapon and an Einherjarium.
This is one of the five Hunts required to complete the Jovy side quest.
