Sleep Sprout can be unlocked by capturing three of each Fungii-type fiend which includes each of the following:
· Funguar (Mushroom Rock Road)
· Exoray (Inside Sin)
· Thorn (Stolen Fayth Cavern)
Defeating Sleep Sprout presents the same challenges as defeating any of the other Fungii-type enemies - a barrage of negative status effects. Sleep Sprout will use a move called “Goodnight” which will inflict the Berserk, Poison, Sleep, 
Power Break and Armor Break status effects.
The key to this battle is to make sure that your party members have armor with the 
Ribbon auto-ability. Sleep Sprout will also cast high level spells including 
Ultima so make sure that your characters have the Auto-Phoenix ability as well so that they can revive one another.
You should consider power leveling your characters and obtaining the Celestial Weapons, in this case, for Yuna specifically. Check out the Advanced section of the Tips and Tricks for more information. With properly leveled characters this fight is fairly easy.
