Black Magic Abilities
A full list of the Black Magic Abilities that your characters can learn through the Sphere Grid.
These Abilities are different than the Auto-Abilities that characters can add to their Weapons and Armor. Head to the Abilities section to find those listings.
The Abilities are listed in the same order as they are within the game. Click on the “Alphabetical” tab to view them in alphabetical order instead.
Fire
- Description:
- “Deals fire damage to an enemy.”
- Effect:
- Inflicts a small amount of fire-based elemental damage to a single target.
- Cost:
- 4 MP to Cast
Thunder
- Description:
- “Deals lightning damage to an enemy.”
- Effect:
- Inflicts a small amount of lightning-based elemental damage to a single target.
- Cost:
- 4 MP to Cast
Water
- Description:
- “Deals water damage to an enemy.”
- Effect:
- Inflicts a small amount of water-based elemental damage to a single target.
- Cost:
- 4 MP to Cast
Blizzard
- Description:
- “Deals ice damage to an enemy.”
- Effect:
- Inflicts a small amount of ice-based elemental damage to a single target.
- Cost:
- 4 MP to Cast

- Description:
- “Deals fire damage to an enemy.”
- Effect:
- Inflicts a moderate amount of fire-based elemental damage to a single target.

- Description:
- “Deals ice damage to an enemy.”
- Effect:
- Inflicts a heavy amount of ice-based elemental damage to a single target.

Bio
- Description:
- “Poisons an enemy.”
- Effect:
- Inflicts an enemy with the Poison status effect which causes damage over time to an enemy. Depending on the enemy’s HP, this spell can inflict a fairly high amount of damage. It is very useful against bosses that are not immune to the status effect.

Demi
- Description:
- “Reduces HP of all enemies by 1⁄4.”
- Effect:
- Reduces the HP of all enemies by 1⁄4. Unfortunately, most bosses and strong enemies are immune to its effects making this spell rarely useful.

Death
- Description:
- “Can instantly KO an enemy.”
- Effect:
- Inflicts the “Death” status effect on an enemy. Many enemies are immune to its effect.
- Cost:
- 20 MP to Cast
Drain
- Description:
- “Absorb HP from an enemy.”
- Effect:
- Absorbs HP from the target and restores the caster’s HP. This spell doesn’t inflict much damage and there are better ways to heal your character, so this spell is of limited value.

Osmose
- Description:
- “Absorb MP from an enemy.”
- Effect:
- Absorbs MP from the target and restores the caster’s MP. This spell can be useful if you’re desperate for MP.
- Cost:
- 0 MP to Cast
Flare
- Description:
- “Deals non-elemental damage to an enemy.”
- Effect:
- Inflicts a high amount of damage that is not tied to an element. Non-elemental damage can be very helpful in fights against enemies or bosses that have elemental resistances.
- Cost:
- 54 MP to Cast
Ultima
- Description:
- “Deals non-elemental damage to an enemy.”
- Effect:
- Inflicts a very high amount of damage to the entire party that is not tied to an element. This is the strongest spell in the game.
- Cost:
- 90 MP to Cast
Bio
- Description:
- “Poisons an enemy.”
- Effect:
- Inflicts an enemy with the “Poison” status effect which causes damage over time to an enemy. Depending on the enemy’s HP, this spell can inflict a fairly high amount of damage. It is very useful against bosses that are not immune to the status effect.
