Al Bhed Primer Locations

The Al Bhed Primers serve as tools for teaching your team each of the letters of the Al Bhed language. Acquiring proficiency in these letters enables you to comprehend the Al Bhed dialogue, whether they are speaking amongst themselves or with your party members.

Refer to this guide and accompanying screenshots below to pinpoint the locations and obtain each Al Bhed Primer. To track your progress, inspect the Key Items section in your inventory and identify the missing ones. You will acquire them in alphabetical order, with “Volume I” corresponding to the letter “A,” Volume II to “B,” and so forth.

Regrettably, there is no way to retrieve some of the Al Bhed Primers if you missed them. The missable ones are identified in the descriptions below. Use the map markers provided in each screenshot to help you locate and ensure you collect them all.

Master Linguist
Achievement/Trophy

You will receive the Master Linguist Achievement/Trophy if you manage to pick up all 26 Al Bhed Primers as you travel through Spira.

Vol. I

The first Al Bhed Primer is located at the rear of the Salvage Ship in the game’s opening chapter. Alternatively, if you missed it, you can acquire it later in the Bikanel Desert, close to the point where you reunite with Wakka if you missed it on the ship.

Vol. II

You can find this Primer inside the Crusader’s tent in Besaid Village. If you missed grabbing it during the first visit to Besaid Village, you may have trouble accessing the village later on in the game, depending on what part of the story you have reached. A summoner with Dark Valefor may be blocking access. In this case, you’ll have to wait until the end of the game when you’re strong enough to defeat the Dark Aeon.

Vol. III

The third Primer is onboard the S.S. Liki and can be found in the engine room (with the Chocobos). You can also find this Primer later in the Bikanel Desert if you missed it.

Vol. IV

You can find the fourth Primer in one of the huts in Kilika next to Kulukan (the Blitzball player).

Vol. V

You can find the fifth Primer on the bridge of the S.S. Winno. It can be obtained in the Bikanel Desert if you missed it.

Vol. VI

The sixth Primer can is in the locker room on the opposite side of the Besaid Auroch’s locker room, under the stadium in Luca.

Vol. VII

The seventh Primer is near the stairs leading up to the Sphere Theater in Luca.

Vol. VIII

The eighth Primer is automatically given to Tidus by Rin when you reach Rin’s Travel Agency along the Mi’ihen Highroad - Agency, Newroad.

Vol. IX

The ninth Primer can be found along the trail just after you leave Rin’s Travel Agency, working your way along the Mi’ihen Highroad pathway.

Vol. X

The tenth Primer is hidden along a secret pathway that you can access in the Valley area of Mushroom Rock Road.

Vol. XI

The eleventh Primer is hidden along the Djose Highroad just behind a large pillar. It can be difficult to see if you don’t know what you’re looking for, so use the screenshot below to help you locate it.

Vol. XII

You can find the twelfth Primer on the North Warf of the Moonflow after the team has ridden the Shoopuf across the river.

Vol. XIII

The thirteenth Primer is inside one of the houses in Guadosalam.

Vol. XIV

The fourteenth Primer is given to Tidus by Rin if you tell him that the study of the Al Bhed Language is going “Okay” at Rin’s Agency in the Thunder Plains. You can obtain this volume in the Bikanel Desert if you missed picking it up.

Vol. XV

The fifteenth Primer is in Macalania Woods near the Save Sphere and near the area where Auron carves out a hole in the pathway. It can be difficult to see, but it’s near where O’aka XXIII is/was standing.

Vol. XVI

The sixteenth Primer is to the left of Rin’s Travel Agency near Lake Macalania.

Vol. XVII

The seventeenth Primer is in the central area of the Bikanel Desert on Sanubia.

Vol. XVIII

The eighteenth Primer is in the central area of the Bikanel Desert on Sanubia as well.

Vol. XIX

The nineteenth Primer is located just outside the entrance to Home in Bikanel. There is no way to obtain this volume if you missed picking it up.

Vol. XX

The twentieth Primer is in the Living Quarters off the main hallway of Home. There is no way to obtain this volume if you missed picking it up.

Vol. XXI

The twenty-first Primer is in the Main Corridor area of Home. There is no way to obtain this volume if you missed picking it up.

Vol. XXII

The twenty-second Primer is along the pathway to the Bevelle Temple after the wedding scene. There is no way to obtain this volume if you missed picking it up.
