Spirits are more dangerous than some of the previous Larva-type enemies that you’ve fought before. They can hit you with a barrage of Black Magic spells, and they counterattack with a “Poison Mist” that will both Confuse and Poison your party members. Your best bet is to equip armor with the 
Confuseproof or the Ribbon auto-ability attached.
