Ifrit
Gaining control of the Eikon Ifrit is different from the other Eikons that Clive can control. As noted in the tutorial message that pops up after you unlock Ifrit during the Buried Memories Main Scenario Quest, “slots for Ifrit’s abilities are shared with those for the Phoenix and can be confirmed via that Abilities tab in the Main Menu.”

What does that mean? In short, Ifrit doesn’t have five unique abilities like other full-fledged Eikons (one Eikonic Feat and four Eikonic Abilities). Instead, it’s just two new abilities and the ability to trigger a Limit Break.
There is a section of the game where you can control Ifrit, and for those sequences, Clive will gain access to a whole new set of Ifrit-specific abilities while “embodying Ifrit.” For more information on those abilities, check out the “Embodying Ifrit” section using the link below:
Additionally, there is a section where Clive will be “embodying Ifrit Risen,” and those abilities are found in the following section:
Embodying Ifrit Risen

A list of attacks and abilities available when embodying Ifrit Risen.
Descriptions of the three Ifrit-specific abilities are included below:

Limit Break
Other
Use +
when the Limit Break gauge is filled to semi-prime, improving battle performance for a short period of time.
Tips and Tricks
- This ability is unlocked when you gain access to Ifrit, but it technically has its own category on the abilities page as “other,” but it will be covered briefly here. Press
and
to activate Clive’s Limit Break, and then press them again to deactivate it.
- You can use Limit Break to interrupt the last part of an attack animation and immediately jump to the next attack, or use it as soon as an enemy is staggered so that you don’t have to wait for their stagger animation to complete before you can start dealing damage (it works the same way as
Rift Slip).

Will-o’-the-Wykes
Eikonic Ability
Summon a storm of fireballs that circle about Clive, damaging nearby targets, while also absorbing damage.
Tips and Tricks
- This is an invaluable ability that puts up a protective barrier around Clive and prevents him from taking damage if he gets hit by an attack. This is a handy mechanic for learning brutal boss fights, or if you’re struggling to dodge or not get hit by a boss attack. For your first playthrough of the game, it can be really helpful to fall back on Will-o’-the-Wykes.
- The “storm of fireballs” also deals some damage to nearby enemies. This fireball damage also extends to any nearby
Lightning Rod, but be aware that this mechanic isn’t always a good thing. The Lightning Rod deals damage based on the attack that triggers the explosion, and the little fireballs deal very little damage. Also, Lightning Rod has a limited number of charges, so you might be potentially wasting those charges, dealing very little actual damage. To summarize, having the circling fireballs hit the Lightning Rod can be helpful because it stuns nearby enemies, but if your goal is to maximize damage, such as when an enemy is staggered, you should avoid having the Will-o’-the-Wykes fireballs hit a Lightning Rod.
- There is a gap between when the protective shield dissipates and when the cooldown for the ability is over. This prevents you from recasting the shield over and over again to avoid ever taking any damage. As a result of this interaction, you’ll have to choose when you want to use it, i.e., if there’s a challenging attack coming up that you want to prepare for. Don’t just use it whenever the cooldown is up.
- This ability can be a crutch. It’s worth mentioning that all of the attacks you face in this game can be dodged or dealt with in other ways. There’s no point in the game where you need to use this ability, even if you’re attempting to earn a Medal of Valor, though admittedly, Will-o’-the-Wykes can make the process of earning Medals much more forgiving.

Ignition
Eikonic Ability
Attack while charging, inflicting multiple hits and forcing smaller enemies back. Can be used in midair.
Tips and Tricks
- This is a fun ability to use, as it blasts Clive from one end of the battlefield to the other, but more importantly, it has utility as one of the first abilities you get that can group up enemies instead of blasting them all over the place. When facing a group of enemies, start by using Ignition to group them up, and then follow it up with a
Scarlet Cyclone,
Wicked Wheel, or
Pile Drive.
- From there, though, we have to talk about its drawbacks, of which it has many. You’ll have limited control of Clive while the ability is active, it’s very easy to get caught in different spots on the ground, it leaves Clive open to attacks, and it doesn’t actually deal all that much damage. Against bosses, it won’t push them around, so the only time you can use it is when a boss is staggered; otherwise, you’re likely to be hit by one of the boss’s attacks, but it doesn’t deal enough damage to be that useful during a stagger window.
