Introduction

Welcome to the jegged.com walkthrough and strategy guide for Final Fantasy X-2! Before you begin, there are a few important notes to cover.

As with any walkthrough or strategy guide, be aware that there are spoilers throughout these pages and in each of the sections of this site. Efforts have been made to avoid revealing key story elements where possible, but if this is your first playthrough of the game and you want to avoid spoilers completely, proceed with caution and try not to read too far ahead.

The most important thing to understand about Final Fantasy X-2, especially for new players, is the chapter-based structure of the game. This structure has strongly influenced how this guide is organized.

Chapter System

Unlike the precursor, Final Fantasy X, which generally has you visit each of the locations one or two times as you progress through the story and through Spira, Final Fantasy X-2 allows you to visit almost all of the locations in almost all five chapters of the game. For each of these visits, you can complete optional story content, pick up new items, and complete side quests.

The mandatory portions of the game are typically marked on the map with a Hotspot indicator, which tells you that going to that location will drive forward important plot points in the story. But for those who want to get the full experience of the game, Final Fantasy X-2 has a lot more to uncover.

Story Completion Percent

The “Story Completion Percent” tracker is both the most unique and the most frustrating aspect of Final Fantasy X-2. To trigger the secret ‘Perfect’ ending, you need to achieve a “Story Completion Percent” of 100.0%. Unfortunately, this is very difficult even with a full guide like this one, so many players miss it on their first playthrough and have to play through the game again to see it.

Achieving 100.0% Story Completion requires triggering all of the story events, not skipping any of the cutscenes, and quite often circling back to ensure that you haven’t missed anything. It also quite often involves meticulously tracking everything you do to make sure you don’t accidentally miss anything.

There’s no need to worry, though, as this walkthrough and strategy guide has been set up to help you make sure that you don’t miss anything during a playthrough. Not only can you tick off the checkboxes within the walkthrough to help you keep track of all of the requirements and make sure you’ve completed them, but you can also check your “Story Completion Percent” in the game and compare it against this guide’s tracker.

None of it is compulsory, though. If you’re playing for the story rather than the percentage, you can ignore the checkboxes completely and use the walkthrough as a straightforward guide.

Using this guide and the tracker will prove extremely helpful during a playthrough. Still, if you’re planning to achieve 100% Story Completion during your playthrough, it’s worth delving into the Story Completion section of this guide both to understand how the percent tracking works in the game and how this guide can help you to make sure you haven’t missed anything:

Game Difficulty

Final Fantasy X-2 doesn’t really have an ‘easy’ or ‘difficult’ mode, but it does have a “New Game+” mode that can be unlocked if you’ve already completed the game previously. If you want to learn more about the differences in “New Game+” because you’re replaying the game (likely attempting to get 100% Story Completion this time), check out the section below:
