Introduction

Welcome to the Jegged.com walkthrough and strategy guide for Final Fantasy XVI! Before we begin, there are a few important notes to address.

As with any strategy guide or walkthrough, please note that spoilers are present throughout. If this is your first playthrough and you wish to avoid story details, proceed with caution and try not to read too far ahead.

At the start of this walkthrough, it's important to understand how Treasure works and the available difficulty modes.

Treasure

There are two types of treasure to find as you explore Valisthea. The first type is regular treasure coffers, as shown below:

These treasure coffers are single-use and always contain the same reward, determined by your selected difficulty mode. This walkthrough highlights each treasure coffer, and their locations are marked on the corresponding section maps.

The second type is a glimmering blue light that emanates from the ground, known as “glimmers.” While these are sometimes noted in the walkthrough, glimmers differ from coffers in two main ways:

  • They contain lower-quality items, such as low-level crafting materials, small amounts of Gil, or Potions.
  • They respawn after some time, allowing you to collect them again.

The contents of glimmers adapt based on your needs. For example, if you’re low on Potions, you’ll likely find them inside; if you’re stocked up, you’ll receive low-level crafting materials or small amounts of Gil instead.

Game Mode

There is also a “Game Modes” overview page in the Tips and Tricks section, but it’s worth providing a brief overview at the start of the guide. If you’re playing the game for the first time, you will only have access to “New Game” from the main menu.

If you’ve played through and completed the game before, you will also have access to the “New Game+” option and a new Gameplay Focus option called “Final Fantasy Mode”. So what does this all mean?

  • New Game:
This will be your only option when you first start the game, but when you start up a new game, you will have access to two “Gameplay Focus” options:
    • Story-Focused:
This can be thought of as the game’s easy mode. You will start with several accessories automatically equipped that help automate gameplay, and enemies are much easier to defeat.
    • Action-Focused:
This can be thought of as ‘normal mode.’ You will still have access to the same accessories that help automate different aspects of gameplay (check the link below for more information). They don’t come pre-equipped, and enemies will be at their standard difficulty level.
  • New Game+:
This option allows you to replay the game while carrying over all of your data from your previous playthrough. This game mode doesn’t offer any additional challenge, but it allows you to replay the game with access to all your moves and equipment, just in case you want to breeze through it one more time.
    • Final Fantasy Mode:
If you select the “New Game+” option, you’ll have access to a new gameplay mode called “Final Fantasy Mode.” This can be thought of as the game’s “Hard Mode.” You’ll carry all of your data over and have access to your full move sets, but enemies will be more difficult to defeat, and the types and quantities of enemies you’ll face will be harder. Once you get the hang of the battle mechanics in Final Fantasy XVI, you may not find this version to be that much more difficult. However, it can add a fun layer of challenge if you decide to play through it again, and there are achievements/trophies associated with this version of the game if you plan on mastering it.

“Final Fantasy Mode”

This jegged.com walkthrough has been set up so that there are different versions of the walkthrough, side quest, and hunts section depending on which difficulty mode you are playing. If you select the “Final Fantasy Mode” menu option or click on the “Final Fantasy Mode: Off” button, which will switch it to “Final Fantasy Mode: On,” these sections of the guide will be updated to reflect the changes you’ll see in Final Fantasy Mode.

To be more specific, the walkthrough will now properly identify the groups of enemies you’ll face and will contain updated item lists for what you’ll obtain when you open treasure coffers. There are also new items available that you can only find in “Final Fantasy Mode,” which will only appear if you’re in the “Final Fantasy Mode” version of the walkthrough.

There will be a warning at the top of the page if you’ve accidentally navigated to the “Final Fantasy Mode” section, which you can use to return to the home page if needed.
