The Nine of Knives
The section provides an overview of how to track down and defeat the Notorious Mark for the Nine of Knives Hunt.
In-Game Description
“Dhalmekian traders are wont to say a prayer for unwary travelers journeying from Dalimil to Drake’s Fang, for there lurks a bloodthirsty brigand—one who appears to be more interested in letting the blood of his quarry than he is in any 
Gil or goods he might plunder from their caravans. If the road is to be made safe again, then at least one traveler passing through the place must not flee, but stand and fight.”
Unlock Conditions
This hunt is available after you’ve spoken to the residents at the Hideaway during the 
Out of the Shadow Main Scenario Quest.
Notorious Mark Location
Travel to 
The Jaw Obelisk and follow the trail north. Note that this Notorious Mark blocks the pathway to the baker’s apprentice if you’re in the middle of completing the 
Use Your Loaf Optional Quest.

Before you engage the Nine of Knives in battle, there’s a good chance that this is your first fight following the events at Kupka’s castle, so do a quick check on your 
Ability Points and 
Eikonic Ability Sets. Make sure your single-target Eikonic Ability Set is active and has all of the abilities you want.
The Nine of Knives is a ninja-type enemy, so this battle will be very similar to the one against the Midnight Raven, the Royal Tognvaldrs, and the Stone Headsman. His attacks have not changed much:
Regular attacks:
- Lunge (Close-range): Midnight Raven will step backward before initiating a three-attack combo in your direction.
- Launch (Long-range): Instead of disappearing into a cloud of smoke and reappearing in Clive’s location, Nine of Knives will jump backwards and whirlwind across the map very quickly towards you. This attack can be difficult to dodge due to the speed at which the Nine of Knives closes the distance towards you, but be ready for it if you’re far away from him.
Poison Mist: Midnight Raven will spew poison breath directly in front of himself. Dodge to the left or right of it using the 
button (this attack is pretty easy to dodge).
Smokescreen: This is a ranged attack that hits the area where Clive is standing. Dodge out of the way before it lands.
The only reason this fight is considered more difficult than the other ninjas you’ve faced off against is because of his attacks and how quickly they keep coming at you; there isn’t much time to rest or recover.
