Ravager
The Ravager role makes use of magic-based attacks to deal damage to enemies. This includes single target and multi-target attacks and, while generally a Ravager will focus on fully magic-based abilities, there are characters (like Lightning) who have access to physical-styled Ravager attacks like Sparkstrike and
Flamestrike.
The most important aspect of a Ravager in battle though, and where it differs quite heavily from the other damage-dealing class, the Commando, is that any attacks from the Ravager will serve to greatly increase the Chain Gauge of an enemy. The Chain Gauge will fall quickly back down though unless a Commando or a
Saboteur is used to prevent the Chain Gauge from draining.
There are a few instances where going all out with Ravager attacks, without the benefit of a Commando, can prove effective, but these instances are few and far between.
One of the other important benefits that Ravagers provide is the wide array of attacks that they have access to. Using Libra on an enemy will typically reveal elemental weaknesses that can be exploited, and any AI Controlled Characters that are Ravagers will immediately switch to using a more effective element-based attack.

Role Bonuses
Increasing the Role Level of a Ravager (by activating Role Level crystals in a character’s Ravager Crystarium) will increase the amount of Chain Boost that their attacks deal and will increase the Chain Boost from ally’s attacks as well, according to the following chart:
Role Level | Chain Boost (Self) | Chain Boost (Allies) |
---|---|---|
1 | +1.0% | +0.1% |
2 | +1.5% | +0.1% |
3 | +2.0% | +0.2% |
4 | +2.5% | +0.2% |
5 | +3.0% | +0.3% |

AI Controlled Characters
Switching your party members into the Ravager role will stop them from attacking randomly and, instead, focus their attacks on the same enemy that their party members are attacking. This allows them to make the most effective use of the Chain Boost effect associated with their attacks.
As noted above, Ravagers will automatically switch their attacks to the most effective element if the enemy they’re facing has an elemental weakness, so make sure you use Libra early. This also applies when using the “Auto-battle” function if your leader is a Ravager. The ATB Gauge will automatically fill up with attacks of the most effective element type.
