Bribing Fiends

Ability IconBribe is a command that the Lady Luck Dressphere can learn for 40 ability points (AP). You won’t get the Lady Luck Dressphere until after completing the tournament events at Luca in Chapter 3, but after that, you’ll be able to make use of this odd tactic in battles moving forward.

There are good reasons not to use Bribe, though, and you should know them. Successfully bribing a fiend will cause it to flee from the battlefield, so you won’t gain any experience points (EXP), ability points (AP), Gil drops, or the fiend’s regular item drops. Instead, using Bribe will get you two results:

  • It ends the battle early and easily
  • Bribing some fiends will result in them giving you different items after it flees

The other major question, of course, is whether you can afford to spare the Gil. Different fiends have different Bribe levels and Gil amounts. You can find them all in the Bestiary if you’re curious, and thankfully, in Final Fantasy X-2, Gil is not hard to come by, and you don’t need to save it up for any particular reason. This is a tactic you can utilize somewhat consequence-free, but be wary of how much Gil you have on hand before you go nuts in battle.
