Flight of the Fledgling
Phoenix Gate
After the cutscenes, you will find yourself in control of Joshua, and he has a few neat tricks up his sleeve. In addition to the fiery illumination spell he casts to help light his way, he has access to a much more powerful fire magic spell , and he can cast “Curaga” using
. Sadly, this is the only time you’re going to have access to a curative spell throughout the game.

Sir Wade will accompany Joshua as he makes his escape from Phoenix Gate. Wade will deal with enemies at melee range, and this will allow you to utilize Joshua’s strength as a spellcaster from a distance. The easiest way to defeat enemies as Joshua is to ignore his ability to attack with button or dodge with
button, and focus on launching devastating fire spells from afar with the
button.

Work your way through each of the rooms following the linear pathway; there are no items to pick up in this section of the castle while you’re playing as Joshua. Clive will rejoin Joshua and Sir Wade once they reach Sir Tyler in the corridor.
Following another set of cutscenes, you’ll find yourself back in control of Clive and joined by Lord Commander Murdoch. Go through the doorway ahead to find a glimmer that contains a Stoneskin Tonic, and through the next door, you’ll have to fight a group of Imperials. This group includes spellcasters (Imperial Astrologers) who should be prioritized.

Party Member’s Actions
Helpful Hint
On occasion, you may be accompanied by party members who deal quite a bit of damage, but it’s much more common that the party members who join you will deal fairly little damage to the enemies they face. Instead, the more important role that party members fill is to distract one or more of the enemies you’re fighting, especially when there is a large group.
This is just something worth noting; they may not be attacking the same target as you, but they are very much assisting by hopefully preventing some of the enemy’s attacks from hitting you while you’re focused on something else.
Go through the wooden double doors and, as you walk through the next corridor, you’ll pick up two more glimmers which contain a Potion and a
High Potion. Press the
button to proceed through the doorway at the end of the hall.
It’s another large group of Imperials to defeat! Run straight to the spellcaster (Imperial Astrologer), just like Lord Murdoch says, and he will help to distract the other enemies. Another tip is to run around to the back of the Astrologer and initiate combos as you’re facing towards the other Imperial soldiers. If you position yourself properly (and you get a bit lucky with how the enemies position themselves), you can sometimes strike more than one enemy with each swing of Clive’s sword.

Once you defeat the group of Imperials, it’s on to your next boss fight…
Boss Battle

This fight begins with a cinematic evasion (press at the correct time). Remember to use
Rising Flames early on in the fight!
The Knight only has one special attack in addition to his standard, regular dragoon attacks:
Jump / Double Jump:
These attacks are the same, but later in the battle, the knight will begin double jumping instead of just a single jump. He will disappear into the air, and a blue beam of light will appear, indicating his landing spot. Move away from the beam of light (twice when he double jumps) and then go in for a quick attack while he is recovering.
Just be ready to dodge his attacks when they come. The spinning spear attack can take a bit of time to get used to because of all of the flashiness before he swings, but once you get the timing down, defeating the Knight is not too hard.

A few cutscenes will take place after the battle against the Knight of the Blinding Dawn. The next battle takes place between Joshua (in the form of the Eikon Phoenix) and Ifrit.

Embodying the Phoenix
This battle is a lot more cinematic than it is challenging. There are only three controls that you have to worry about:
- Aiming with the
- Firing with the
button
- Evading with the
button
Ifrit’s attacks are fairly well telegraphed, meaning that it’s pretty easy to see them coming. The screen will flash brightly red when Ifrit is about to attack Phoenix with a physical strike. For the most part, this interaction is cinematic and not intended to be a challenging battle, so try to focus your attacks by following Ifrit’s movements as it jumps between the pillars. Otherwise, this fight shouldn’t present too much of a challenge for most players.

Some cutscenes will take place after the battle, ending the Flight of the Fledgling Main Scenario Quest.
