Sunrise, Sunset

The first “Main Scenario” quest you receive is called Sunrise, Sunset. You can track your progress on each of the active quests you receive under the “Journal” section in the game menu. Speaking of which, let’s briefly go over the different sections of the game menu that are available now:
- Journal:
This tab provides an overview of your progress on quests. You can navigate between “Active Quests,” “Main Scenario Progress”, and “Completed Quests”. The main story quest that you are on will appear here, along with any of the parts that you’ve already completed, along with any Optional Quests that you’ve picked up along the way. - Items:
This tab lists out any items in your inventory other than gear (which appears under the “Gear & Eikons” tab). Consumable items can be used both in and out of battle, or assigned to the Directional Pad () shortcuts. This section will also list out any materials, curiosities, and key items that you’ve picked up.
Note that Clive will carry around a special curiosity during this chapter called theShield Ensign, but you don’t need to use it to progress the story.
- Attributes:
An overview of Clive’s attributes and gear. This section is not relevant during the prologue but provides useful advice on character stats and equipment later on in the game. - Gear & Eikons:
Similar to the “Attributes” tab, this tab will eventually provide more information about gear and Eikons available to Clive. Right now, he will only have access to his default gear (theRosarian Oath and
Rosarian Belt) and cannot modify his Eikon setup.
Walk a short distance forward toward the tent to see a shimmering blue beam of light emanating from the top of a barrel. Touching it will trigger a dialogue box that explains how you can find useful items across the realm, which will be added to your inventory in the “Items” tab of the menu.

There are two different types of treasure that you can find and pick up while traveling through Valisthea. The first treasure type, like this item that Clive has just picked up, has no official name in the game but will be referred to in this guide as a “Glimmer” spot. These Glimmers contain mostly expendable treasure, and it’s not a big deal if you miss them or skip past them. They typically contain:
- Consumables (
Potions,
High Potions,
Stoneskin Tonics)
- Basic crafting materials that can be found in many other locations
- Small amounts of
Gil
They even respawn if you come back to the same location later on in the game.
The other type of treasure that you can find is a treasure coffer, similar to those found in other Final Fantasy titles, that can only be opened once. They sometimes contain unique and important items. Treasure coffers will always be identified within this walkthrough to make sure that you don’t miss anything important, but Glimmers will only be mentioned in passing. For more information, check out the “Treasure Types” page in the Tips and Tricks section:

An overview of Glimmering spots and how they work compared to standard treasure coffers in each of the versions of the game.
Back to the guide—this Glimmer will contain a Potion. Follow the Main Scenario Quest Marker
towards the stairs for another short cutscene. You can follow the stairs up to the rampart to find another Glimmer that contains a
High Potion. Go through the doorway using the
button and into the Down Gardens.
There is one last Glimmer on the right side of the doorway that contains another Potion. You can speak to Joshua or go through the large set of double doors to continue the story. This doorway will require you to push and hold the
button to open.

A few more scenes of dialogue between Clive and his father before you are back in control again. There is nothing to do in the castle and no treasure to find, so follow the Main Scenario Quest Marker leading to Clive’s room to trigger a few more cutscenes and conclude this Main Scenario Quest.
The next section of the game takes place in Stillwind. Select Stillwind from the main map to go to that location.
