Search Sphere and the Besaid Key

When you reach Besaid Island, and get into the cave using one of the ciphers, you’ll find that there’s a second cipher-locked door near Wakka that you can’t get into. The first cipher is part of the story, but the second stays shut until you have two key items: the Besaid Key, and the Search Sphere that the key unlocks. Behind the second cipher-locked door is the Raging Giant Garment Grid.

This is entirely optional. It is not required for 100% Story Completion, and it isn’t tied to any Achievements or Trophies.

Getting the Besaid Key

The Besaid Key is sold in the Besaid shop, but the amount it costs is way higher than what a typical player would have in Chapter 1. Sure, you can grind for hours and earn up a bunch of Gil, but there's an alternative. You you can get it for free in Chapter 3 instead from one of the tourists you rescue during the “Tourist Trap Mission” in the Calm Lands hands it over.

Getting the Search Sphere

Take the key to the temple in Besaid Village and open the chest inside to receive the Search Sphere. Note that the Search Sphere only works on Besaid. If you leave the island, you’ll have to return to that room and pick it up again before you can use it.

Finding the Four Spheres

Walk around holding the button and a blue bar extends from the orb in the bottom-right section of the screenn. The bar illuminates as you approach a buried sphere, more and more, the closer you get, and it flashes red when you are almost on top of it. Press the button there to have Yuna dig it out.

Stand on the uncovered sphere and press the button again to enter the camera view. The directional buttons pan the camera, zooms in three steps and then resets, and the button can be used to exit. You are looking for a green ball with a number written on it. Write each number down as you find it.

Opening the Door

With all four numbers, head into the Besaid cave and turn right at the first crossing to reach the second cipher panel. These four numbers are different from the ones that opened the cave’s first door. Enter the code, collect the Ether along the way, and at the end, where you come out above the waterfalls, walk as far left as you can to reach the chest holding the Raging Giant Garment Grid.
