Paine

Paine is the newest member of the Gullwings and the only main character in the game that hasn’t been brought forward from Final Fantasy X. While she makes several references to the events of that game (like singing the Hymn of the Fayth), she does not make an appearance.

She starts in the Warrior Dressphere, and this role fits her personality and character well. Final Fantasy X-2 being what it is, though, she’s technically no stronger in this or any other role than either of the other two main characters, so it doesn’t matter if you swap her to a completely different style of role.

From a story perspective, her history is brought forward through viewing Spheres in the “Treasure Sphere” menu and through interactions with various new and returning characters in Final Fantasy X-2. Though admittedly, her story is not nearly as robust as the other two characters’.
