Limit Breaks: Barret

A full list of Barret’s Limit Breaks are included below. Barret has a total of seven Limit Breaks that he can learn.

Level 1

Big Shot
How to obtain it:
This is the Limit Break that Barret starts the game with.

Effect:
Deals damage to a single enemy. It does 3.125x the normal damage that Barret’s weapon does when using the Attack command.

Mindblow
How to obtain it:
Use Big Shot a total of 9 times in battle.

Effect:
Drains the MP of a single enemy. This will only work on enemies that have MP and should only be used in circumstances where draining the MP of the enemy will have a noticeable impact and benefit.

Level 2

Grenade Bomb
How to obtain it:
Defeat 80 enemies in battle.

Effect:
Deals damage to multiple enemies. Grenade Bomb will do 3.375x the damage that Barret’s weapon does when using the Attack command. This damage amount goes down depending on how many enemies the attack hits.

Hammer Blow
How to obtain it:
Use Grenade Bomb a total of 8 times in battle.

Effect:
Inflicts the “Instant Death” status effect on the target. This attack will have no effect if the enemy is immune to “Instant Death”. Note that most bosses and high level enemies are immune.

Level 3

Satellite Beam
How to obtain it:
Defeat 80 enemies in battle after you have obtained Grenade Bomb.

Effect:
Deals damage to all enemies on the battlefield. It inflicts damage equal to 2.042x the normal damage that Barret’s weapon does when using the Attack command.

Angermax
How to obtain it:
Use Satellite Beam a total of 6 times in battle.

Effect:
Deals damage randomly to any enemy on the battlefield. Angermax fires eighteen shots at enemies which will each hit for 0.5x the damage that Barret’s weapon does when using the Attack command. There is no way to direct the bullets and they will hit enemies randomly potentially resulting in them all hitting the same target.

Level 4

Catastrophe
How to obtain it:
Use the Catastrophe item on Barret after he has learned all of his other Limit Breaks. Catastrophe can be obtained by revisiting Barret’s home town of North Corel after retrieving the Huge Materia and stopping the oncoming train.

Effect:
Deals damage randomly to any enemy on the battlefield. Barret will attack with his Gun Arm a total of 10 times. All of the attacks (including the final attack) will hit for 1.25x the damage that Barret’s weapon does when using the Attack command.

Loose Cannon

You will also receive the Loose Cannon Trophy once you teach Barret his Level 4 Limit Break, Catastrophe, using the Catastrophe item that you can obtain in North Corel.
