Dread Comet

The section provides an overview of how to track down and defeat the Notorious Mark for the Dread Comet Hunt.
In-Game Description
“The hunters of Tabor speak of a wild chocobo that haunts not only the nearby badlands, but also their dreams—for it exhibits a ferocity rarely seen in the species, and has ripped more than a dozen of their comrades from gizzard to groin and feasted on their flesh. The bird is far past taming—it must needs be put down.”
Unlock Conditions
This Hunt becomes available at the start of the A Song of Hope Main Scenario Quest.
Notorious Mark Location
Dread Comet is hanging out in an open area between two cliff walls in an area called “The Sickle” south of Dalimil. Travel to any of the nearby Obelisks (The Jaw, The Dalimil Inn, or Dravozd) and then head to the area indicated on the map below:

The most important thing to note about Dread Comet is that this boss/Hunt doesn’t have a “Will Gauge” and, therefore, cannot be staggered. This means that there’s no point in saving up your Eikonic Abilities for a combo because no combo multipliers are forthcoming.
There is, of course, still value in using some of your abilities in combination (such as Lightning Rod with any of your other skills), but otherwise, use them early and often to rip through Dread Comet’s HP as quickly as possible.
Dread Comet has some standard physical attacks that it does with its beak and by kicking its legs and talons, but they’re relatively easy to dodge. The critical abilities to watch out for are:
- Choco Meteor: A beam of light will materialize wherever Clive is standing and, after a short period, a meteor will slam down. A ring of energy will emanate outward from where it lands, and that ring of energy needs to be dodged. Dread Comet can launch multiple meteors at the same time, so be ready to dodge as many times as required.
- Choco Meteorain: This attack is almost the same as Choco Meteor, except that it’s a constant string of attacks that Dread Comet will launch that will hit the area where Clive is standing (like Choco Meteor), but will also hit random areas on the map, making it very difficult to dodge all of them without taking damage.

“The Enterprise is but a final piece in the completion. Unfortunately, not even Mid knows what that piece might be, though she hazards that her father did. Clive returns to the hideaway to trace the footsteps of a friend.”
