No further action may be taken without Cid’s express permission.”

Notorious Mark Battle

Class: XXX
HP: XXX
The most challenging aspect of this fight is just how powerful Atlas is when you first gain access to this Hunt. His attacks are pretty straightforward, but the damage they deal to Clive if you’re unable to dodge them can be hefty.
Another complicated aspect of the Atlas fight involves how its attacks will chain together. Getting used to its attack pattern can take some practice, so make sure you save your game near Cressida in case you need to try again.
Here are some of the attacks it will throw your way:
Sword and Shield Attacks
- Triple Attack: This attack has several different combo forms. It will sometimes swing its sword overhead towards you three times. Sometimes the third attack will be a horizontal swing.
- Swipe and Shield Smash: Atlas will swing his sword horizontally towards Clive and then raise his shield. The shield will glow slightly before Atlas smashes it back down to wherever Clive is standing.
- Stomp: Atlas will lift its leg in the air before smashing it down.
- Charge and Underhanded Swing: Atlas will drop its sword down to the right and charge towards wherever Clive is standing.
All of the physical ‘Sword and Shield’ attacks are easy to dodge, but Atlas can substitute attacks at various times to try to trick you up using all sorts of different combinations.
Special Attacks
- Celestial Sphere: Atlas will shoot a beam of energy skyward, which will land in a circle around the spot where Clive is standing. A second set of circles of energy will follow the first one. Dodge away from the glowing areas on the ground to avoid the damage.
- Sword Energy Blast: You can tell when Atlas is about to use this attack because it will jump around the arena twice, and then it will get ready for an overhanded swing. This attack launches a wave of energy at Clive for all three of Atlas’ swings, and all three of them can be counterattacked with
Heatwave.
- Shield Energy Blast: This attack is similar to Sword Energy Blast, except Atlas will only attack with it once rather than three times in a row, and it involves a glowing shield animation just before it launches energy in your direction. This makes it more challenging to counterattack. You have to be ready to get out of the way quickly, and Atlas can add this attack to its “Triple Attack” while it’s in close range, making it really difficult to dodge.
- Golden Section and Saber Dance: It’s unclear why these two moves have different names, as they’re the same attack. Once Atlas reaches 50% HP, it will use Golden Section, followed by a “Charge/Underhanded Swing”, and then use Saber Dance. Atlas will summon a giant light sword from wherever it’s standing and swing it from left to right. It reaches a considerable distance, but you can jump far enough away from Atlas to not be in range; otherwise, you will have to time the dodge for the attack.

Walkthrough Guide

“Clive returns to the hideaway and sets about spreading the glad tidings that Hugo Kupka—the man who crushed their former home and saw many of their friends slaughtered—is no more. Those who lost their lives that fateful night are avenged, and those lucky enough to survive can now live without fear that he might one day return.”
