Attacks

  • “Bite”: Physical attack against one target, 1x base damage.
  • “Beta”: Fire-elemental magic attack against the whole party, 3.38x base damage, costs 35 MP.
  • “Blown Away”: Special attack against one target, never misses.
  • “Change”: Special attack against one target, never misses.

Strategy

The first time you pass through the Marshes, the Midgar Zolom is much too powerful to take on: “Beta” alone hits the entire party for far more damage than you can survive at that point in the game. Catch a Chocobo at the Chocobo Farm and ride it across the swamp to avoid the fight entirely. If you want to learn “Beta” for your Command Materia IconEnemy Skill Materia early, equip a Accessory IconFire Ring to nullify its fire damage, and consider using Aeris’ Planet Protector Limit Break for temporary invincibility. The tables turn in later discs: a stronger party can cut the Midgar Zolom down with ease and farm “Beta” safely.
