Rare Card Locations
The following list includes cards from pages 8, 9 and 10, which are the Guardian Force cards and the Player Cards. These 3 pages of cards collectively make up the high-level rare cards and each of these rare cards cannot be found through regular games against card players. If you missed any of these cards you can still manage to pick them up if you complete the CC-Group side quest prior to moving on to disc 4.
Level 8 (Guardian Force) Cards
Level 9 (Guardian Force) Cards
Level 10 (Player) Cards
You may have noticed that one card on page 5 seems to be missing. While it may not be a high level card, the PuPu card involves an entire side quest to obtain...
The Chubby Chocobo Card is obtained while completing the Queen of Cards side quest. You must first lose the Chicobo Card to the Queen of Cards which her father will then use as inspiration to create the Chubby Chocobo Card. Click on the link for information on how to obtain the Chicobo Card or click on the link for information on how to complete the Queen of Cards side quest.
The Angelo Card can be won by challenging Watts to a card game. You can first challenge Watts during the Forest Owls mission in Timber while you are on the train (click here to go to that section of the walkthrough).
If you missed your opportunity while on the train you can still challenge Watts to a game of cards when you find him on the White SeeD ship on disc 3 (click here to go to that section of the walkthrough).
The Gilgamesh Card is obtained from the former Master King of the CC-Group (Dr. Kadowaki). Dr. Kadowaki will not play using this card until you have completed the CC-Group side quest up to the point of finding out that he was the former Master King. Click on the link for more information about completing the CC-Group side quest.
The MiniMog Card is the first rare card that you can easily get your hands on. The card can be won by challenging the jogger who runs circles through Balamb Garden. The jogger wears a green/blue mix of clothing and runs through each area of Balamb continuously. If you miss the jogger as he/she runs past just leave the screen and return and they will run past again.
You receive the Chicobo Card at the conclusion of the Chocobo Forest side quest. Click here on that link or click on the link in the left side bar for more information about how to complete the Chocobo Forest side quest.
You can win this card by challenging Mayor Dobe in Fisherman’s Horizon (FH) to a game of cards at any point after your initial meeting with him and his wife.
You can obtain the Shiva Card from Zone while you are onboard the White SeeD Ship (at this point in the game). In order to receive the card from Zone you must give him the [Girl Next Door] magazine which can be found in the Timber Maniacs building in Timber.
If you missed grabbing the [Girl Next Door] magazine or if you forgot to speak to Zone while on the White SeeD Ship you will have to wait until the end of the game to receive the Shiva Card. This can be done by completing the CC-Group side quest and then challenging the CC-Group members aboard the Ragnarok.
Challenge the owner of the pub in Dollet (where you meet up with the Queen of Cards) to a game. After you defeat him he will invite you into his secret room, and from there you can challenge him again to win the Siren Card.
The Hotel Owner standing outside of the hotel in the town of Balamb holds this card. You can only challenge him for it though once you have defeated Fujin and Raijin inside the hotel during this part of the game.
Just make your way back inside the town afterwards.
You can obtain the Alexander Card by challenging Piet to a game of cards. Piet can be found aboard the Lunar Base.
Unfortunately if you have already passed this portion of the game you will have to obtain Alexander from the CC-Group card members at the end of Disc 4. Click on the link for more information about the CC-Group side quest.
The Phoenix Card is the last card you receive upon completion of the Queen of Cards side quest. The card itself is held by the Presidential Aide in Esthar. You can find the Aide in the Presidential Palace in the same room that Squall first dropped off Rinoa in.
The Doomtrain Card is obtained while completing the Queen of Cards side quest (click on the link for more information). The owner of the pub in Dollet holds the card. He is the one standing under the sign that morphs between a picture of a lady and a picture of a tiger. It can take a lot of card games before you see him use the Doomtrain Card so be prepared.
The Kiros Card is the first card that you can obtain through completing the Queen of Cards side quest and is actually available as soon as you visit Deling City for the first time if you complete the quest parts as they become available.
The person who holds the Kiros Card is standing just outside of the shops in Deling City as shown below:
You can win the Laguna Card by challenging Ellone to a game of cards while aboard the Lunar Base (at this point in the game).
Unforunately if you missed the Laguna Card you will have to wait until the end of Disc 4 and challenge the CC-Group members for the card. Click on this link for more information.
The Selphie Card is held by one of Selphie’s classmates at the ruins of Trabia Garden. Challenge the person sitting on the fountain.
The Quistis Card is the second easiest rare card to obtain - it is held by the two SeeDs in the cafeteria of Balamb Garden.
You can win the Zell Card by challenging Zell’s mom in the town of Balamb to a game of cards. This can only be done after you have completed the Dollet SeeD exam mission.
Head back to Deling City and back to General Caraway’s Mansion. If you talk to General Caraway he will explain to you that essentially he wants the Ifrit Card. Lose the Ifrit Card to him on purpose and he will begin using the Rinoa Card so you can win it off of him.
In order to get your Ifrit Card back though you will have to travel to Fisherman’s Horizon (FH) and challenge Martine to a game of cards. Martine is the man sitting off to the side of the Mayor’s residence.
Edea holds her own card. Travel to Edea’s House after the battle against Galbadia Garden and challenge her to a game of cards.
Because of the ridiculous card rules in effect for the region of Centra it can be incredibly difficult to win Edea’s card from her. I have provided some tips and tricks to make it easier in this section of the walkthrough.
Headmaster Cid holds the Seifer Card and you can challenge him right after he gives you the [Magic Lamp] and before you make your way to Timber.
