Command Materia (Yellow)

A full list of items: Consumables, Combat and Useless Items found throughout Final Fantasy VII.

A full list of all of the Command Materia found within Final Fantasy VII. Command Materia enables a new action within the battle screen. For example, equipping Deathblow Materia allows you to use the Deathblow Command in battle. These are similar to but different from Summon and Magic Materia. They have no status effects and cannot be paired with Support Materia.

Deathblow Materia
Description:
Gives you access to the Deathblow command in battle (listed as “D. Blow” due to character size limitations). Using the command will either cause a critical hit, causing double the normal damage, or will miss entirely. This can add a relatively random element to a battle so it is recommended that you not use it unless you have a weapon with extremely high hit % (which means that the weapon cannot miss and will always result in a critical hit when using Deathblow). This includes Tifa’s God’s Hand and Vincent’s Sniper CR. Deathblow Materia is very strong when either of these character/weapon combinations are used.

Location:
Found at the end of a pathway in Gongaga and can be picked up in Gongaga if you missed it during the first pass through as you can skip Gongaga on your way to Cosmo Canyon.
Double Cut Materia
Description:
Changes your attack from just a regular “Attack” to “2x Cut” or “Double Cut”. This will cause the character to attack twice in the same turn and can greatly increase the amount of damage caused. It is one of the strongest Materia in the game (especially for melee heavy play styles).

Location:
Found on the Sunken Gelnika which is an optional area you can reach by using the submarine. Check out the Sunken Gelnika side quest section for more information.
Enemy Skill Materia
Description:
Enemy Skill Materia is used to learn various enemy skills around the game. A number of the skills including White Wind, Big Guard, Matra Magic and Aqualung are extremely useful throughout the course of the game. Check out the Enemy Skill Materia section for more information about where to find each of the enemy skills listing.

Location:
There are four Enemy Skill Materia located throughout the game. The first can be found in the Shinra Building (also known as the Shinra Headquarters) after the battle against Sample:H0512 in the container that held Red XIII (and is the only Enemy Skill Materia that can be missed if you didn’t pick it up during the first or second visit):

The second is located in the basement of a place called the “Respectable Inn” in Junon:

The third is located in the Forgotten Capital at the top of one of the shell houses:

The fourth and final Enemy Skill Materia is located at the Chocobo Sage’s House. Check out the Chocobo Sage’s House section for more information on where to find it:
Manipulate Materia
Description:
Gives access to the “Manip.” command on the battle screen. Using this command will spin an enemy around and allow you to choose its next move and who it uses it on. There are not too many uses for this Materia other than for obtaining a few of the enemy skills for your Enemy Skill Materia.

Location:
Cait Sith comes pre-equipped with a Manipulate Materia when you pick him up in Gold Saucer. You can also purchase them in Rocket Town or in Fort Condor.
Master Command Materia
Description:
Gives access to all available Commands from Command Materia in the game including Steal (Steal Materia), Sense, (Sense Materia), Throw/Coin (Throw Materia), Morph (Morph Materia), D. blow (Deathblow Materia), Manip. (Manipulate Materia) and Mime (Mime Materia).

Location:
The Master Command Materia is given to you by the Kalm Traveler as part of a side quest after defeating Emerald Weapon. You can also obtain one by mastering each of the Command Materia listed on this page (excluding Master Command Materia) and then speaking to Bugenhagen in Cosmo Canyon.
Mime Materia
Description:
Gives a character access to the Mime command on the battle screen. Using Mime will cause the character to replicate the most recent attack by one of your other characters. This can be used to replicate regular attacks, commands, magic and summons, but cannot be used to replicate some moves such as Limit Breaks.

Location:
You can pick up a Mime Materia from one of the Materia Caves as part of the Chocobo Racing and Breeding side quest.
Morph Materia
Description:
Allows a character to access the Morph command. Using Morph on an enemy has a chance of converting the enemy into an item (for example, a Ghost Ship can be converted into a Guide Book as part of the Kalm Traveler side quest to obtain a Underwater Materia). The Morph attack has to be the final blow that kills the enemy which can be a problem as the damage from a “Morph” attack deals significantly less damage than a regular attack. You can get around this by using Yuffie’s Ultimate Weapon, Conformer, as it is not impacted by the reduction in damage.

Location:
You can pick up a Morph Materia in the Temple of the Ancients. This is the only Morph Materia available in the game. If you missed the Materia or lost the Materia you can only obtain it through a Master Command Materia.

Sense Materia
Description:
Gives a character access to the Sense command. This will allow you to see an enemy’s HP, MP, level and weaknesses. This can be useful information both with and without a strategy guide as knowledge of an enemies HP level can be important for using Morph and for other strategic reasons.

Location:
You can pick up your first Sense Materia in the Sector 6 playground in Midgar. Red XIII also comes pre-equipped with a Sense Materia. You can also purchase them in Junon and in Kalm.
Slash All Materia
Description:
Allows access to the Slash command which then replaces the Attack command. It is a very useful piece of Materia that greatly increases the amount of attack power that a character has. It can level up to include the “Flash” command which has the potential to instantly kill enemies.

Location:
You can obtain a Slash All Materia in the Ancient Forest which you can reach after you have defeated Ultimate Weapon.
Steal Materia
Description:
Provides access to the Steal command and, after being appropriately leveled, the Mug command. Mugging an enemy allows a character to steal and attack at the same time and will take the place of the “Attack” command on the battle screen. There are a ton of important items that can be stolen from enemies so it is important to keep Steal Materia equipped on at least one character at all times. Equipping one also has the benefit of increasing a character’s Dexterity stat by +2.

Location:
You receive your first Steal Materia in the Sewers of Midgar very early in the game. You can also purchase more of them in the city of Kalm.
Throw Materia
Description:
Provides access to the Throw command. Throw allows you to throw various items and weapons (with the exclusion of a few weapons, such as Cloud’s Buster Sword and Barret’s Gatling Gun; their default weapons). Once sufficiently leveled, it provides access to the Coin command which allows you to throw gil at an enemy. The amount of damage is roughly the amount of gil thrown divided by 10. This Materia has very limited applications.

Location:
Yuffie (an optional / secret character) comes equipped with a Throw Materia by default. You can also purchase Throw Materia in Fort Condor and in Rocket Town.
W Item Materia
Description:
Allows a character to use two items at once. It is also used for the W-Item cheat (details available in the cheats section).

Location:
You can obtain W-Item Materia during the second visit to Midgar when the team parachutes in from the Highwind. You can also dig up a W-Item Materia in Bone Village if you missed it in Midgar.
W Magic Materia
Description:
Allows you to cast to magic spells (from Magic Materia) at the same time during one turn.

Location:
W-Magic Materia can be found in the Northern Cave in one of the lower sections.
W Summon Materia
Description:
Allows a character to use two summons (from Summon Materia) at the same time during a turn. This Materia is critical to the completion of the Emerald Weapon and Ruby Weapon side quests.

Location:
You can earn W-Summon Materia in the Battle Square in Gold Saucer. Check out the Battle Square side quest section for more information.
